Is it better to use the rubber front and rear intake seals or just use sealer? My motor has a stock intake on a 4000 mile rebuild,i torqued the bolts in the right pattern and i have a slight oil leak in the front-not sure about the rear. Also on a stock 350 buick how much vacuum should i have? Thanks for the help in advance  :TU: !!!To me the rubber seals seem loose. Also i only put a dab of sealer in each cornerfront and back.
I've always used the rubber seals. There's a good gap that would be difficult to completely fill with sealer. When I reused them I put a small bead of silicone all the way across to make extra sure and I've never noticed any leaking. You should be getting around 18-19 inches on a stock moter if its running well.
i installed intakes on 350 Buicks multiple times over the years with zero problems until this summer. I bought a fel-pro intake set as I usually do and installed it as usual per instructions with silicone on the ends only. This time the front and rear rubber gaskets kept slipping into the valley. I took the intake off and cleaned and even glued the damn things and they still did it. I'm sure it is a maufacturing defect. Anyhow, I chucked the rubbers and used silicone all the way like you do on a chevy and it works just fine. Zero leaks. Just run a nice bead on the block about 3/8" thick.
I never use the rubbers. I've had so many of them leak over the years that I just put a large line of sealer and torque the baby down. Since I have been doing that I have not had a leak :TU:
