    Hi All,

Pardon what will most likely be a silly question, but I've just gotten into all of this buick greatness and I am diving quite fully into the deep end, and am trying to find out as much about my engine as possible because I don't have much from the previous owner.

While under the car putting in the new super comp headers, on the bottom of the block I saw:

    350
    3

What does this mean, the 3? Also the poor engine code was milled away I think when the engine was rebuilt, and I was hunting for the engine numbers but couldn't find them, as well as the tranny numbers to see if it was all numbers matching or not. Oh well, more hunting later.

Mold # 3 is my guess. You see, they likely had several molds used for production of the 350. If they have a problem with an engine, they now can trace it to the mold, so the mold can be fixed or scrapped. Quality control... It also has the month, day and shift at the time of casting...

Did you check for the vin derivative stamping located on the front face side of the block, just above where the drivers side timing cover mounts near the head surface. The numbers run vertically.
