340 motor

    im going to try and restore 67 340 gs i need to know how to check numbers on motor and trany to get it numbers matching numbers on cowl also where to find numbers thanks geno:confused:

    Geno,
    See the attached photos - Assuming it has the correct casting number on the top rear of the block where it meets the transmission, the front vertical surface of the block below the front edge of the head (somewhat hidden by the power steering pump bracket) is a number stamp that should match the numbers on the metal tag riveted to the driver door hinge area. The block date code is stamped between the #4 and #6 cylinders on the somewhat flat surface of the block - it appears to be a month / day code. In this case it is 513 which would translate to May 13th for a June built car. Somewhere is a picture of the VIN stamp on the block and I'll post it if I can find it.     He forgot to mention usually covered with so much grease you won't believe they are there! I had to take the pwr steering and air pump brackets off the driver's side of the engine to find the matching VIN # to the door tag on my 340. Crusty is the word for mine. I also found a live black widow spider in my distributor that day :error:

    thanks guys i will look for # on motor in guarge i want to know if motor i have in guarge is 67 340 motor did the gs 340 have a different 340 than skylark geno
