Postons sells headers and cams, TA performance sells cams, Crower makes cams. What i did bore it 30 over, resize rods, turn down crank tell shop you want 11:1 compression, All new valves 3 angle valve job. New brass valve guides, springs to match cam pocket port, gasket match intake with heads smooth out runners like glass go with Poston headers pn# PE709773. Run 2.5 inch exshaust with some flow masters of choice. New rocker arms and shafts. Rebuild oil pump. I went with a crower camshaft, pn#84150 had it degreed of course new lifters MSD buick billet dist,pn#8548, MSD ignition box pn# 6200, MSD blaster coil red pn# 8203. It is backed by a Turbo 350 a B&M Tork Master 2000 1900-2100 stall converter Original gears have not got there yet and probly will keep them. As of now it has a 1406 Edelbrock 600 CFM carb I have not had it on the road yet. But it sounds good really rocks whole car when rev it a little havant reved it to high only a few hours on it Still slowly workin on body but ill get it one of these days. I miss driven the buick. hope you will use som ideas wish some one would make an intake Thanks Josh

    Specs on cam?

Sounds like a good build up there. What lift/duration/lobe separation for the cam? What car is it in and how do the headers fit? Thanks!

Its in a big old 67 4door skylark cam specs are lobe center = 112* /ADV. DUR. Intake = 276* / DUR. Exhaust = 281* LIFT Intake = .488 / EXHUAST = .490 The headers are waiting for me to put in. At least fenders are off hope it is easyer this way, still debating weather existing pipes will match up + how much i will have to hack off. When i did pipes, no one had headers, till like a month and a half ago. It sounds good now i hope headers inprove the sound and maybe a little more power. I still have a lot to do. So every one come to my house and we will have a party, We will be like amish men putting up a barn. LOL

    :beer Thanks

    340 headers

Hi guys its nice to see some ohio boys on here i live in akron so its cool to see someone close. I got some good news and some bad news. The headers made my 300 sound great i have a crappy 2.25 inch exhaust with two chamber turbo mufflers (not flowmasters Unforunatly) The also fit really well the took uptight against the floor and are barely visibly unless you are on your knees. Now for the bad news i had to lift the engine to get mine in on the driver side. Which isn,t a big problem just a little more work. Plus on mine for some reason i had o move the brake porportioning block from the frame. I have talke to others that say they didn,t have to but i looked to close to me so i moved it. O ther than those two complications i am extremly happy with the way the sound and fit. Unfortunatly i have not driven it yet with the headres installed the car is at they tail end of a three years restoration. But just moving it in and out of the barn i can feel a diffrence

    Myred340,

Sounds like you have the exact same electrical system and carb that I have.

But, I have ask how you plan to use the car.

My engine has the original 10.25:1 compression and I need to run a racing fuel mix to control the pinging during normal street driving. What kind of use do you plan for that engine running 11:1 ?

Well i plan to just use it to go ridding around but i dont know how its going to run as far as i how its set up. I know that ill have to mix fuel but im not gonna drive it much. A few people i know run stall converter they say they dont have a problem on streets thats why i stayed at a lower rpm. I'll have to see how she runs if i dont like something ill have to change what i dont like. How do you guys think its gonna work with my set up to much or is it ok

Your car should run strong. I had to play with the timing due to the MSD dist. not having a vacuum advance. Also had to increase the spark gap because of the 6A box.

I never got headers because I read a post from a 340 guru (user name JIMMIEB) who said that the stock exhaust manifold was highly efficient. Nobody challenged his statement on a long thread.

Also, my stock y-pipe 2" exhaust is plenty loud at idle. People at shows always assume I have glasspacks. The 1966 340 did not have exhaust manifold gaskets, so I suspect that it leaks a bit, adding to the powerful sound.

I do want some input on i have a 600 cfm edelbrock on it now, but i see some people on here that say 350's need 750 cfm. 340 +0.030 is close to a 350, what do you feel the cfm should be to get the most with out going overboard? Any prefrence to vacum secondarys or manual wich of the two has more adjustment of when secondarys open. This is homework i really should of done before i bought my carb but if should of went bigger. I could use that 600 somewhere else.

    Thanks Josh.

Sounds like and easy install on those headers. That proportioning block is in the way of all headers it seems.

Harry, what axle ratio do you have in the yellow Lark? Do you like it with the OD trannie? Seems like the 2.73 (or 2.78?) would make the engine really loaf @ low RPM's on the highway. I was thinking to put a 3.23 axle into this '67 with the 340, then later get the 200-r4.

    Onward through the fog...

    Ted,

I have the original 2.78 axle. Yes, it does loaf on the highway and could use the higher ratio. A 3.23 would be ideal for a good street cruiser.

I love the 200-4R. A major improvement over the switch-pitch ST300. It was a bolt-in with some research and work on the TV cable setup. I can't manually shift to low gear due to the column shift limits. But, with an automatic, that's not much of a loss.

    TV Cable

How many stations do you get? Ha:error:

What is this TV cable for? I have read how important this is, but really never found out what it does and why it so critical to install properly. I need to understand function to respect it. Thanks,
