Greetings from Finland, northern Europe. I'm looking for a 340 4 barrel intake manifold, anyone has one for sale? I know that it is hard to find, actually impossible from Europe, but maybe I find it this way? Regards, Jukka
Jukka, I believe I have one, but will be away until April. If you have no luck PM me then and I will look. Fred
Fred, thanks, that's awesome, I'll contact you on April. I know what I'm looking for, so meanwhile I don't hold my breath. It took so much longer to find a 4 bbl intake to a 300, but finally I was lucky. Now I have bought a 340 from '67 Sport Wagon, I'll rebuild it and swap it in to my Skylark. I'll contact you later, take care and be safe.
I have to check if it's still around, but I might know someone in Belgium who has one of these laying around for years. I swapped the cracked 340 in his 1967 LeSabre for a 430, back in 2009. When I visited him somewhere in 2017 or 2018, that old 340 was still stored in his barn.
Wow, thanks, that would be even better, because if it's possible to find one from European Union area, all fees should be reasonable. Please let me know if it's available.
Thanks for information, I'll keep that in my mind. Too much trouble to search and dig them out during winter. Would you help me later, if I haven't found any? - Jukka
I would be glad to help. We're looking at mid-April at this point though. Winter finally got here and I'm sure those cars are under a couple feet of snow.
I have a few in Az. Going next week, live in Ca. The shipping must be pricey! Let me know if interested. Jim
The community and power of this forum is amazing! It took years to find a 4 bbl intake to my current 300 engine, because I was only following ebay and afraid to write anything on here. I don't use English (write or speak) so often, so this isn't so easy to me. Anyway, I appreaciate you a lot, all of you. I have some contacts in US, they ship cars and parts using containers, so that could be a best solution for shipping. If Nailhead in a 1967 could check his friend in Belgium first. If it is not available, Jim might be the fastest solution. Nailhead in a 1967 and Jim, I'll send you a personal message. Thank you very much, Jukka
Nailhead in a 1967, I'm not able to send you a message, could you check your friend if the intake is available? Thanks, Jukka
I already sent him an email after posting here, If I don't hear something back by tomorrow, I will contact a friend of his to get his telephone number
I did some research to make sure it's the right intake manifold when I get hold of my Belgian friend and ask him to do a casting number check. My book "ULTIMATE AMERICAN V8 ENGINE DATA BOOK" says this about the 340-4 intake: Casting number for the 340-4 intake manifold is 1379948 They don't mention the 1966 model year? Buicksnet.com says this on their website. That's the same number I came across in my book: 1379948 But..... they also say this on their website. Another casting number for the 1966 (only?) 340-4 intake manifold: 1374559 I will let you A.S.A.P. when I hear from my friend in Belgium
In this old thread I found some information that the 1374559 casting number was used only for a California 340-4 intake manifold Click here to view that thread
Thank you very much for your help, this is quite interesting information. I'm wondering what is the difference between California engine intake manifold vs other version, or why they changed the casting number. Well, maybe it doesn't matter at all. I need to check casting number from my 2 bbl manifold, it should be '67 2 bbl. The block has stamped as NA, and if I have understood correctly, it should be this: Team Buick: 1967 V8 NA 340 9.0:1 340 220 2V 340-2 "Wildcat 350" lettering Jukka
I think it had to do with the A.I.R. system on those CA engines. Click here to read that section of the 1966 Buick Chassis Service Manual
Excellent information: "All California carburetors are vented inside the air cleaner; the one external vent opens only when the carburetor is in curb idle position. The action of the exhaust control system makes is necessary for all engines to have an air valve whitch opens into the intake manifold". So this might be the biggest difference between casting numbers.
Jukka, heard from my friend in Belgium. He's divorced, had to sell the property and nowadays he's living in a small flat, so he had to let go of all the cars, tools and spare parts. I asked him if he knew who ended up with the engine, he told me that he sold all the metal parts to a local scrap yard. Too bad...
Sorry to hear about your friend, usually nobody wins in that situation. Anyway, thanks for trying, I appreciate it a lot.
