Hey guys I have a question. I have an iron headed two barrel 300 67 I think. Anyways I am having a problem with it running hot. It has a radiator from an airconditioning car(I think a three core maybe 4), new water pump, new thermostat. the problem is when the car sits and idles for any length of time. the tempature will keep climbing I have seen it get as hot as 215 degrees. Once the car comes of idle the tempature goes down quickly. Will driving around town the tempature is about 180 then at speeds above 40 its like 175-178. The car also has a seperate cooler for the tranny. I seems like that it is a water pump problem in that it is simply not moving enough volume at idle. Is there any high volume water pumps for the 300. I thought the water pumps from a 350's and the V-6 were the same. I think I have seen others on this board with this problem any help would be appreciated. thanks a lot Adam
are u sure its not your fan? if the engine is at a lower rpm so is the fan. you might consider switching to an electric fan with a automatic theromstat.
I'd also suspect the fan. The '67 just aint my thing, but if I'm not mistaken, it has a wimpy 4 blade fan with no shroud... It just wont pull enough air when it's sitting still, it needs to be moving to get enough air-flow thru the radiator to get the job done.
I don't have a fan clutch it is mounted directly to the pulley with an aluminum spacer in between. The vacume advances is working good and there is a fan shroud on it. I think I m going to run an elecric fan on a thermoswitch. If any one else has any ideas let me know. Thanks a lot guys Adam
