300 timing cover rope seal

    hey, everybody I need some advice. The rope seal that gos in the front cover keeps falling out. everytime I slide the balancer on it falls between the cover and the oil slinger. whats up am I missing something. or what.:af:

    Rope seal

    Hi, there

    Well, since it keeps falling out - throw it out completely!

    Go to your local NAPA and buy a timing cover set - Part # JV 1052 SF around 15.00 bucks - This is a one piece "super flex" seal for the front cover. comes with all the extra gaskets on the front cover. You will need to knock out the metal retainer that holds in the original rope seal. use a appox. 3" round diameter stock or large socket to press in - firmly supported on the other side.
    This kit is for the 300-340 engines but also works nice on the 215 motors
