300 stuff on a 340???

    Ok guys been pushing things around with the old man and why again is it you cant put a 300 top end on a 340??

    As far as i know you can put 300 heads on a 340. But becuase the block is slightly wider the intake wont work.

    Correct. The heads will work, the intake won't be wide enough.

    It should be a good swap, PS & Alternator brackets, exhaust manifolds etc should all work...I think the intake would be the only issue and it should not be to hard to find.

    why again is it you cant put a 300 top end on a 340??


    the problem is between 215/300/340/Rover style heads vs the Buick 350.

    Buick changed the pushrod placement in the 350 due to the different intake runner arrangement and this causes offset problems for the rockers with heads from earlier engines.

    I was thinking about using the aluminum 300 heads on my 11:1 340, but after finding out what I'd have to spend to install bigger valves (the same size as the 340, which are not real big to begine with) and I'd have the smaller 300 port size... I changed my mind and went with lower compression (9.5:1) pistons. I think it was money well spent.
    Later on when I get rich I'll get a set of the TA aluminum heads, then the 11:1s will go back in.
