Howdy, Having owned a 300 powered 67 skylark I know that its a very smooth running and perky little engine but I'm wondering, what does it share with the later and more common Buick small blocks? Specifically the tranny department, I keep eyeballing 300 powered 64-66 LeSabres and Electras, the motor is fine though a nailhead would be more fun, its the 2sp ST300 that I'm interested in ditching, what can you bolt to the back of a 300 easily and not have to monkey with the crossmember? Thanks,
A 200-4R will also bolt in, although you have to move the crossmember back and drill new holes for it, which only takes a few minutes.
how would a combo of a 65 300-2 upgraded to a 4bbl intake with a Edlebrock 600 AVS and a TH200-4R (like a Monte spec unit) be for cruising on 87octane or would I still need 92? Thanks,
Those mods would not affect your octane requirements. I think that the 300-2 had a CR of 9.0:1, which I would think would run OK on 89 octane gas. The overdrive transmission would allow you to cruise at low rpms, but that would not stop detonation which happens under acceleration or up hills. You may have a timing issue if you have a lot of pinging.
Well I was more thinking along the lines of making sure that it was known that the engine was a 300-2 not a 300-4, just had a 4bbl intake and carb on it. Just really looking into a possible upgrade to make the car more cruiser friendly with better gas mileage and minimal octane requirements. Thanks,
