    Oil Pump Kit

Hi Bruce; What kind of kit are you installing? It isn't the one with the booster plate and longer gears is it? If it is, don't use it. If your end plate is scored badly, either get a new plate, or sand down your existing plate with fine oiled sandpaper on a flat surface. I was advised not to use high pressure pumps because they put too much strain on the cam gear. If you bought a kit, just use the new spring and the thing(?) that fits on the end. Or get an adjustable pressure one. I wish I hadn't taken my car to my son's and stored it, I miss messing with it when there is nothing to do. Maybe on a nice day, I'll bring it back. The garage just doesn't look right without it there. Room to park my van, but who cares? That's where the Skylark Belongs!! Good luck Bruce and I hope you got my message. :beer

Hey Ponch, they are the stock length gears.I too have heard do not use the high pressure pumps and definitley will not.I was thinking of lapping the plate on a piece of glass.I have done this in Bobcat wheel motors that I work on and if lapped on a piece of glass with sandpaper it will leave a 100% true surface.Yes I got your message and will talk to you in a few days...........Bruce.

mellings kit #P20I , includes stock length gears , gaskets , new spacer plate ( fits between gears and end cover ) , correct length bolts , spring assortment and directions . have the parts place dbl check that part number but i think that is correct . should be about $20 - $30 , garage price was about $18 . they also list a high volume part number and a standard new gear kit also . don't expect the pump cover bolts to come off easy . remember there is one sorta hidden under the filter inside . check the inside of the housing , where the old gears were , for scoring ( common ) , too much and it will affect presure . check the directions carefully - gear to plate clearancing and spring selection important . pack the gear area with vaseline ( not grease ) to help prime the pump before start up . add some oil to the NEW filter before you install it . del
