I have a 65 Buick Skylark running a 300 nailhead. :Do No: I need to know which post on the distributor cap is number one. Dose it matter?

Its the post just to the edge of the window.......can't remember which side of the window though :Do No:
To find out, pull the #1 sparkplug out, with finger over hole, turn engine over til you come up on compression (pushes your finger off). Then hand turn the crank over til the timing mark on balancer comes up to the "0" mark on timing tab of front cover. Take off the distributor cap. Look to see where rotor is pointing. Reinstall cap and install the #1 wire to match up with whichever post on cap the rotor lines up with. Make sense?
The 300 isn't a nailhead by the way, it has the regular angled valve in head arrangement. The nailhead name is reserved for its big brothers.
Good Luck and welcome to the group.
