I'm looking to replace the manifold on my Buick 300 with a manifold that will support a 4 barrel carb. I've tried finding a stock manifold from a 340 to put onto it but their few and far between. Are there any other engines that I can use a manifold from? Or does anyone possibly know if any other cars used a Buick 340 so I can start searching for engine parts from those cars?
The 340 manifold will be too wide You need one off a 300 that is made from the same kind of metal as your cylinder heads
This this ebay listing, they state they will disassemble and sell parts, maybe they have a 4bbl. Ebay 300 engine-parts
No, the 340 has a taller deck height like the 350 The 300 is shorter and consequently has a narrower intake manifold
Damn then I was very poorly informed before. At least I didn't keep up the bid war last night on ebay.
That's an aluminum intake from a '64. Everyone on the board will tell you it won't fit an iron head '65-67. Well, I put one on my 66 300 and it works for me. Just buy the iron one from Bob on the Oregon craigslist and be done with it already!!!
This isnt the best solution but it works very well. Couple years back the 2 barrel on my 300 went south. Of course it was the middle of summer so i wanted it back on the road so i took a 4 barrel to 2 barrel adapter and flipped it upside down and bolted a edelbrock 500 on to it. I used a carbide bit and blended the ports out to match the adapter. The car runs great with this set up and never has had any issues. The only problem is hood clearance mine is very close to the hood. I was going to look for an intake to put on it but it has worked so well that I have just kept it
when i first bought my 65 ( i knew nothing about them) and was mis informed. but i put a 4 bbl intake from a 64 300 on it and it works fine. aluminum intake w/ cast iron heads is my set up. anyone see why i shouldnt run this?
The 64 alum intake has slightly smaller ports than the iron 65 intake. That's not a problem, it just won't flow as much as the iron 65 intake. If I remember correctly, there is an exhaust passage in the iron head used for intake manifold heating. That passage gets blocked off when the alum intake is put on. It's possible the alum may corrode from the hot exhaust gas. Mine is still fine after about 10 years and 15,000 miles.
