i think it is your kickdown switch.for engaging pasing gear?????? but i have been known to be totally wrong scott
Eyeballing the pic a little closer, I see the throttle stop to the left. So it's probably the kick-down. There should be a small switch on the throttle lever closer to the firewall. Two wires should be coming out of it leading to the kick-down switch. There should be another Orange wire coming from the firewall leading to the switch. That's the 12v feed. Two wires should also be going down to the Trans for the kick-down signal. I hope this muddies up the water for you a little more!! PONCH
Definitly the trans kick down sw. Ponch is right the sw pitch switch is the micro switch that in at the top of the linkage arm. the trans kick down sw is the one you pointed out. Both are very important to the proper operation of the trans. KEEP THEM. The micro sw. makes the stator vanes in the torque converter ''switch pitch'' for more or less stall speed. the other sw. tells the trans to ''kick down'' into passing gear.
I hope you can read these, I took a pic out of my shop manual. What isn't set up right? The Orange wire plugs into the center back tab,if I remember right. I just sold a complete set-up. the Wire with the White plug on both ends go on the front of the switch body then go to the switch on the throttle linkage. The wires that plug into the back of the switch body go down to the trans. I hope this helps. PONCH
Here's a pic of my old 300. I circled the switch-pitch actuator/switch assem. It's what tells your tranny which stall speed the converter should be in. If it isn't working, you'll be locked in one or the other, and drivability and gas mileage will suffer.
good to know info, here a little offtopic but why are your guys 300s blue, my 64 lesabre is like sea green and so was my buddies in his 67 special
ok my wiring is good so what i need to see is the little clicker thing on the linkage. cont make out what way or side it goes on... thanks for all your help guys.
It's blue because i cleaned up the engine when i got the car, and could not quickly locate the correct color paint, so GM corp blue was used instead of bare metal. My new engine is the correct red of a 340, looks alot better than the old 300. If i was home, I'd scan a couple pages from my FSM. That pic is the best i got, the 300 is currently on a stand and not running.
