I started the other day by pulling out my spark-plug wires without even thinking of the firing order. Well after realizing what i did i looked up the firing order online and plus it's on my valve-covers (1843/6572) well after getting a picture of what i needed to do i put everything to what i believe in the right order back and went to start her up and nothing happened i went clockwise put my #1 at tdc and everything any ideas on what could be worng? I'm new at this all and want to learn as much as i can about my 65 skylark/310 wildcat any help would be great thanks. -Sean
First you need to make sure your number one cylinder is at top dead center on the compression stroke.you need to feel the compression with the number one plug out which will be the drivers side of the engine if I remember right. Then once your on the compression stroke line up the marks on you lower damper with the timing marks on the cover.Set the timing on 0 then pull your cap and see where the rotor is pointing in relation to the cap terminal and this will be your starting position for number one wire. From there the rotor turns clockwise but check this for sure by turning the engine over and see which way its turning. The cylinders are like this 1357 is on the drivers side and 2468 is on the passenger side in this order from front to rear. Then just put each wire to the corresponding plug following the firing order and the position of the cylinders on the engine.Hope this all kinda makes sense and helps you out....Bruce.
Just follow this crayon drawing and make sure you are on top dead center to determine where number one is on the cap for a starting point and you should be alright.....
I see you did the TDC thing but you have to be sure you are on the right stroke or you could be 180 degrees off of number one....
thanks for the help i got her running the other day i think i was just one over on the cap #1. So she's running good. thanks-Sean
in my book the more information the better so thanks again for the input i had posted it about the same time i got her running, but everything you said was what i needed to know. -sean
