I have a 1964 Lasabre,2dr,300,4bl, I am in the process of getting the engine rebuilt and am trying to find the correct engine code. I have a GM, Buick service manual from 1964 and in there it says there are three different codes, a "KL", "KM", "KP". The stamped code under the ID# is not stamped deep enough to make out, I would like to know if there is any other way of finding out the code?? The engine ID# is 87 4608548 and the SER# of the car is 4444706410.

    Thanks, the manual does say:
    "KL"-Standard
    "KM"-Standard (Export)
    "KP"- High Performance
Soooo, I'm realy kinda looking for a "KP" ansewer!!! But I guess what I realy need to know is are the parts interchangable?? Or what is the differance??
    Thanks, Rick

As long as they are all 64 year engines there is no differance in them other than two and four barrel carbs and the High Performance used flat top pistons where the low compression 2 barrel used dished pistons. The 65 and later 300s however have cast iron heads and intake........Hope that helps some. All lower parts below the heads and intake should be the same on all 300s........

THANK YOU, this engine does have alum. heads and intake, this does help me alot. I am taking it into the rebuilders in a couple of days, so now I have an idea about parts. This is a great site with alot of info.
    Thanks again, Rick:beers2:
