i know it could be a number of things but my 300 seems to be having trouble running. For example the other day every time i would slow down for a light or stop sign it would act like it wanted to die then i would push the gas and get the rpm's back up and it would keep running but it still will die if i just sit at a light or whatnot for too long. Any ideas of what may be worng timing? or something else any help would be nice thanks.

I would say Carburetor, but I'm no expert. Maybe not enough fuel going through?

Kind of hard to say -but when that has happened to me its always either been too low an idle speed setting, vacuum leak somehwere, set of points on the way out , incorrect dwell or timing has crept back in that order. J.

It runs for a few seconds at a stop light, before dying?

Change your fuel filterS and check the jets for any crap that's crept in.

It's running until the bowl runs out of gas. Once that happens, then it dies.

Someone left the filter out of the Stromberg in my ol' 65 GMC, at the time I bought it and that's how I found out it had no filter in it.
The obstruction in the jet appeared to be a flake of rust (probably from the tank) that was so faint, you could see through it.

Try that first anyway, and see what happens.

...and if its not that, check your choke adjustment, next.

I would check the hoses for cracks, pcv valve, and loose carb. Then adj. initial timing to about 10-12*(unhook hose from distributor and plug it when adj. initial timing).
Hook the hose back up to the dist and adj. the idle mixture screws in front of the carb. With my 2bl I turn both screws all the way in with a engine off turn out 1 1/2 turns and adj. with the car in gear to achieve the most vacuum or smothest idle. While adj. the idle mixture screws turn the idle screw to achieve a 550 rpm idle in gear as needed. Mine idle mixture screws are are about 1 3/4 to 2 turns out.

    Sean,

So what did you find out?
