My mom is the original owner of a '65 Special convertible equipped with the cast-iron 300 V8. Unfortunately her vision isn't what it used to be, and the last time she checked the oil, when she went to replace the dipstick, she missed the hole entirely. The dipstick got hung up on the exhaust until the next time she went for a drive, when it made a successful bid for freedom and disappeared. :Dou:

So, now we need a replacement dipstick. Where on earth does one find one of those????

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can offer up. And if you've got one lying around not doing anything and you'd like to sell it to me, let me know!

    BTW we're in San Francisco.

    Thanks!

I have a 71 350 spare, but no idea if it is close to the 300... I can measure it if you want.

I'm almost positive they are completely different. Apparently the cylinders on the left bank are numbered 1,3,5,7, and the dipstick enters the block between the two center cylinders (3 and 5).

Hi guys--case closed, the dipstick is in the mail. Mike attempted to give it to me for free, which is just way too generous in these tough times, and I wouldn't allow that. But two thumbs up to Mike for coming through in record time and with great kindness to boot! :TU: :TU:
