Anybody how long and where the full mark should be on a 300 engine?
Mine shows full when only 4 quarts of oil are added along with a new filter.
Wondering if I have the right dipstick? I believe it should take 5 quarts to
full. So compromised and put in 4 1/2 qts. No problems but would like to know. The car is a 67 Special. Thanks for your help.

On my 66 Skylark 300 motor, the length from the crimped on washer thing to the full line is ~11 5/8", the add one qt. line is 1 in from the full line...

I hope that explains it well...Sorry the reply took so long, haven't been on the board in a while...

    Thanks

Thanks for reply. Will measure mine to compare.
Also noticed mine says "cap 4 qts" so suspect it might
be a 6 cylinder dipstick which is OK as long as I know it.
I can file a new full mark on it until I came across a correct one.

Edit: Just measured and mine is 11 inches from washer to full.
Also has number 1368546 stamped on it. So still wondering what
dipstick I actually have. A 67 engine might be different that a 66.
So any other input would be appreciated. Pretty sure 5 qts including
oil filter is the right capacity when changing oil.

My dipstick has 1375251 on it...Also says cap 4 qts.

I don't know what else to tell ya...Your dipstick may be the correct one...

How many miles on the motor??? Do you know if it has any sludge or anything in it??? You may have "stuff" on the bottom of the oil pan that is taking up oil space... :Do No:

Make another post and see if someone can decipher the part number on that dipstick or compare to someone else's 67 300 motor...

Good Luck and post what you find out...
