From everything I've ever read about the 300 crank I assume that the one I have is externally balanced......but this one has signs on both end counterweights of having been balanced, i.e. it has holes drilled to remove metal.

Is this normal and is my 300 crank still externally balanced or does this indicate that some kind soul may have had this one balanced in the past?

    Thanks

    Allan

ps....I'm a Brit so have pity on me :TU:

Does anyone have any pictures of a stock 300 crank. I ask only because this crank has had a lot of work done on it in the past, and even though stock they are external balance this one looks internal to me.

Confirms your earlier post that this is still externally balanced.

Looks like I have to spend a few 's on getting it all balanced after the build.

    Thanks again.

BTW if you have any good 300 cranks just lying around I'd be interested in them.

found that one (pic) on the net, although it looked jut like mine.

I have another motor in my parts car that I was contempating pulling apart, but that wont get dnoe for a month or so.

I'll let you know when it gets pulled apart, and I'll keep my eyes open for other cranks.

The balance is on the damper. Just use a 300 damper and when you have the rotating assembly balanced, make sure it's in the box. No point spending gobs of money on mallory to get it neutral balanced when the damper will get you 99% there. The imbalance looks to be about ten or twelve (???) ounces from the amount of metal I see on the damper. If a 302 can run a 28 ounce external balance at 7500rpm with no problems, the 300's small external imbalance should pose no problems.
