I have a 1966 Buick Special with 300-2 setup. I understand that a 1965 300 cid 4 barrel intake will fit straight on?! How about an aftermarket 4 barrell for this if it works..??

Is there something else that I need to account for if I do the swap? I want to get rid of that 2 barrell setup really bad..!!

BTW- Does anyone know where to find HEADERS FOR THE SAME?

    Thanks in advance.

The intake has a "square" flange, so Edelbrock performer and Holley carbs bolt right on. But neither say their carbs are intended for that engine so some modifications would be required to use them with the Buick linkage, like the switch pitch linkage. It can be done I have used them after making a part to add to the new carb and cutting some of the mentioned carbs original linkage off to clear the intake. Not a big deal to me. Also the new carb requires a bigger opening in the air cleaner base so even if you had a air cleaner for a 65 4bbl carb it would not fit the new carbs, I just ues a drop base chrome 14" from Summit Racing.
I even used an adapter and put a Quadrajet on a 340 4bbl intake, worked great. Pic is 340 with Quadrajet, with electric choke.

Your only hope is to find cast iron manifold. Be prepared to lay down $250 to $350 if you can find one.

Then you have to source a carb which can easily go upwards of $300 by time you get either a new edelbrock or have a old carter rebuit. ( Of course if you either have a carb or rebuild it yourself this cost is mitigated )

This change alone will do very little to make the car perform better and is mostly eye candy.

Want that 300 to have more power? There are guys on this forum that can give you ideas on how to do that, cams, pistons, etc. It isn't cheap.

My suggestion is to do as others have suggested and spend your money on a good running Buick 350.

That's my plan, then I can sell my cast iron manifold for big $$.

Your other option is to go with the 64 300 which had aluminum heads and intake with the 4 bbl. I have one of those motors complete for sale for $500, probably gonna be a whole lot cheaper then trying to find the cast iron intake for the 300, and its lighter.

The ports and valves are smaller on the 64. You would need to change the heads too since the ports won't line-up.

I've know someone who put the Edlbrock 1403 on the 65 manifold with good results.

Hi and thanks for the answers. The Buick 350 is a beast and certainly an option. But with that you have to also get tranny to go with it..?! So thats going to run some money... I think I will stick with 2 barrells, JET-37001 looks good, and then heads with larger valves and a lively cam. Thats enough for me.. it is a expensive hobby we're in :D

A sbb 350 has the same trans bolt pattern as a sbb 300.

You think a superturbine tranny can handle a 350 ?

Sure, why not? Buick sold cars with sbb 350 and ST300 back in the day,in '68 I think.

A little heavier SP-300 went into the Gran Sport with a 401 in '65. It should handle a 350.

my '67 (and now it's in my '66) with a 340-2V came with an ST-300, and I think you could even get one in the 66' GS (401 nail head).

Before you replace the Carb, have you considered just rebuilding it? the 2GC is a fairly simple design, and one of the members did an excellent write up on how to do it with a lot of pictures (http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.p...er-2GV-a-pictoral-essay&highlight=2GC+rebuild) and the rebuild kit is like $20-30 at NAPA last time I checked.

    I have a 66 GS 401 with a TH300. I also have a 65 Special with 300 2bl TH300, it runs great and gets 20 MPG! A 210hp 300 is a spunky engine with a curve kit in the distributor. My 87 GN only has 35 more hp.

Thanks for the info! My car runs strong and is dialed in. Even so, it still feels like it is running rich, I get some soot during cold mornings and if the car has not been used for a while. I might have some valve recess, will look into that next. Has
111 K miles on it, and with running unleaded thru it (even with additivies) it might be time to pull her out and work some valve and cam magic.

To make a rover intake fit on a 300/340 it would require spacers to compensate for the extra deck height. The 300 and 340 would need their on specific spacers becuase the 340 has an even taller deck height than a 300. Plus the runners may not be big enough to feed the extra cubes.
