The cam (from TA) for my '64 300 motor is not going in as it should. The bearings (from Poston) are all in the proper positions and the cam is hanging up upon trying to slide it in place. One bearing is almost .003" too small. I have heard of scraping bearings to make them fit but, is this normal for the 300? Anybody experienced this, please let me know what is going on. Thanks, Brian.

The cam is in now thanks to the two pound sledge. It kind of has a slight grinding to it when it turns but, should be fine. OK, back to reality. My machinist used the old cam as a scraper and SLOWLY scraped the bearing surface. Took a lot of time but, should be OK. Anyone ever put a cam in a 300 and have similar issues? Hope we're not missing something here. Guess I'll find out eventually. Thanks, Brian

    Brian,
I , like your machinest, use an old cam that I have made into a reamer by cutting some ''cutters'' into each bearing journal with a dremel tool. Face the ''cutters'' in the same direction that the cam bolt turns so you can use the bolt to turn the cam to ream the new bearings.
this tool will not cut too much material and when it cuts it it leaves a smoothe surface that only needs dressing up with 4/0 steel wool.

That's exactly what he did. Made me nervous but, he assured me that it was not a big deal and that he would check and re-check all the bearings. He did think that one of the bearings was way undersized when we started and wanted me to ask if anyone had run into this before. Thanks, Brian

I did something similar to mine. Then once the cam turned without friction I rifled and rewashed the oil passages with a power sprayer.

I feel better now that a couple people have had similar experiences. I trust my machinest / builder 100%. We just wanted to see if this was par for the course. Thanks, Brian
