300 antifreeze in exhaust

I have a 64 Skylark that was hoping the 300 engine work was complete, but here I go again. The engine was rebuilt and balanced. The aluminum heads were taken to a reputable machine shop (in Fort Worth) and had heli-coils put in the threads and hardened seats. The engine is .003 over and we put flat top pistons for a lower compression ratio and it was rebuilt by a reputable mechanic. I probably dont have 300 miles on the engine yet. It was driven to the body shop and has been garaged since the rebuild, if that means anything.

About 3 weeks ago, I turned it around in the garage, putting the nose in first to work on the lower trailing arms and was letting it idle before pulling it in. The hood was up and there was smoke coming from the passenger side exhaust manifold. There was nothing dripping on the manifold. I pulled it in and turned it off and pondered. Last weekend, I started it up and let it run a little while and again smoke was coming from the passenger side exhaust manifold. I turned it off and underneath both exhaust pipes was drippings of orange antifreeze. There is no cross over, so each exhaust comes from separate cylinder banks. After it cooled, I checked the radiator and couldnt feel or see antifreeze, it was real low. I checked the oil and although it is full, it is not overfull and there is no discoloration.

Today, we removed the 4 barrel intake and everything was fine. No leaks, good gaskets good seal. We pulled the spark plugs and all were dry and no rust. There have been no leaks on the floor of my garage.

How could water (antifreeze) be getting in the exhaust? Both exhausts?

    Thanks for any help.

    Leaking antifreeze fixed

The problem was a leak either in the 1" hose coming from the water pump, the upper radiator hose where it connects to the thermostat housing or the gasket on the thermostat. I don't know which because I replaced them all and the leaks stopped. The stain from the tail pipes which looked like rust, was rust. Probably condenstion in the pipes. I'm a dummy.

its funny I had this reply all typed up in which I was going to suggest looking for leaks in the hoses but I didn't send it because I figured maybe there's some weird issue with the 300's that I didn't know about. I didn't want to steer you wrong. But hey the good news is that it's fixed!!! :3gears: How bout some pics of your car and engine?
