Can someone please tell me why the air filter in my 64 Skylark 300 is a Fram ca179a 10.05 o.d. and 8.61 i.d. and fits properly on the ring at bottom, yet when I ordered the K&N 1520 (says it's the proper one) it is 12.00 o.d. and 9.8 i.d.????? Which is correct. TNX Don 64pinhead 64 Skylark Coupe 300/355 ST300 Gone but NEVER forgotten 67 GS 400 4spd console and tach
64,5,6,7 300,340, both 2 and 4bbl, and the Star Wars air cleaners on the Skylark GS 400s, I have owned all these and they all take the same air filter, A96C. I am talking about regular cars not the 67 GS 340. The Wix Filters website has a cross reference, http://www.wixfilters.com/index.asp They say the A96C crosses to a Wix 42082. I buy them from Carquest in my town because Carquest filters in my town are Wix filters, which is part # 87082 http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/PartDetail.asp?Part=42082 Your Fram number also crosses to the Wix 42082. The Wix is a little different in size but they still work fine, I just bought another one. The people at K&N are wrong. You are correct. Mike
I had a K&N Filter in my '65 300 / 355. When I swapped in my 350 the filter dropped right in that air cleaner housing. So if you can find One, keep it. What I did is ask a guy at a parts store if I could look at all his KN filters. I took them out of the box and compared it to the original I had with me. I found One and have had it for Eight Years. I wish I had kept the part number tho. PONCH.
Thanks Guys, I called K&N today and asked them about the filter since Wix, Fram, Hastings ect all show the same 10o.d, 8i.d.. The tech went through their listings by size and could not find one that was exact fit, but some close... so he is to get back with me the first of the week and said their custom section could make one. I told him that this would work for me but they really should look at their list and manufacture the 10x8 since it seems to fit 5 or 6 years and multiple BOP Chevy and Chevy and GMC trucks as well as years from Studebaker and Jeep and Mopar.....He said that was a good idea!!!!! Sooo, with that solved, anyone wanting a K&N for their mid 60's to late 60's BOP, C, C truck might just have a chance of getting the right one. I know this is an old post, But I just measured the air filter that fits perfectly in my Star Wars air filter housing and it is 10" OD, 8.5" IN and 3" high. so the one listed at K&N is about 1/2 inch to short and may lead to unfiltered air getting into your engine. Can anyone else verify the correct dimensions? Thank you,
