well i as not sure where to post this one but i have a question....i have a buick 350 that has been worked over adn i would like to take off my exhaust and replace it with a 3 inch system. i was wondering if anybody knew who has the best systems and wich mufflers sound the best. Also if i get an exhaust system will i have to know how to weld in order to install it? thanks
How worked over is this 350? Unless it's a very worked over 350, a 3" system would be overkill. You'd probably be better off going with a 2.5" mandrel system with an X-pipe from someone like TA or Torque Tech. I think there's also a company called Pypes that does systems. I've had a TA system and I have a Torque Tech system waiting for my motor to go back in. These systems are usually pretty good, and you may be able to get away with simply clamping them (it worked on my 2.5" TA system), but you may want to have the pipes welding once everything is perfect. Just make sure your system has mandrel bends, which will keep a consistent, smooth pipe size through all the bends. If they aren't mandrel bent, then they'll be crimped at the bends which will cause an interruption in the airflow along with likely reducing the dimension of the pipe.
I love my PYPES system!!! They have a muffler with no baffles in it BUT is very streetable. IF you did a cut-away of this muffler it would look like a *S* inside. The X pipe has helped my car out too!!! If you have a chop saw thats the best way to cut the pipes to fit. You also can RENT a chop saw from HOME DEPOT or any tool rental shop.
