Will a series 2 starter, peanut style, work on a series 1 91 Buick LeSaber? The housing looks right just worried about starter drive engagement.

I want to say it will....but every place I look shows you needing a 95 and older (86) style starter.

I am pretty sure I've used the series I starter on the Chevy 3100/3400 engine before too...in place of the bulkier one.

I was thinking so too because I built a 80 454 for my crewcab and i put the peanut on it for 150.00 from O'Reilly and when I told them what I'm doing they were like "I know the one he wants! All the big block guys buy them". But you never have a guy like me go into Autozone and say I want a peanut starter for my 91 LeSabre. They just look at me funny and then I start explaining. I found a used one on Craigs for 30 bucks so I think it's worth a try.:idea2:

I bought that starter which rattled when it spun for 25. Took it apart and the only bushings I could get were the endcap and the nose end bush. There was another bush where gear reduction plate was and under that was a big bushing. So I went to the zone and got a starter for a 2005 LeSabre part number DL9973. 132.00 W/tax, had 32 on card, cost me 100.00, gave them the other one for core and came home put it on and it works. it has 9 teeth and the original has 11. I guess that's the difference between direct and gear reduction drive. I don't sound exactly like a race car starter but it cranks pretty fast and has a high pitch whine down after the car starts.
So the flex plates mey be interchangable from 91 up to 2005 but doubt it.
