what other parts besides the front timing covers are interchangable between 3.8L v6s and 350s...can the pistons be used from one to the other?

motor mounts swap, water pumps but I don't think anything else does but then again I don't know the bore and stroke on a Buick 350.

I don't think the rings do swap, does a Buick 350 have either a 3.8" or 3.965" bore?

    350 has a 3.800 bore along with the 3.8L

cool, ok, that makes more sense then, just a longer stroke than the 3.400 of the V6's.

Pistons both have the same 1.855" comp. height.

I htink there is a difference between the 231 and 350's.

Some are different, some are the same.

TRW pn# H522P - notice that part no. listed for both the non-turbo V6 and the Buick 350".

BTW....the other V6 pistons will also work in the Buick 350" - it's just that it will have lower compression. Great if you're doing a blown application.

Very cool. So I could use forged V6 pistons with a blower, that may be a good idea.

How about manual flywheels? Will the even-fire 6 wheel work on the 350?

Haven't heard a definitive answer on that one yet.

Good question. I tried an odd-fire one on a 350 crank. The bolt pattern matched, but the meat of the flywheel wouldn't fit over the crankshaft flange.

I bolted an even-fire flywheel to my 350. It fits; just wondered about balance.

    Welp,

My 350 flywheel is out right now. I wonder how I determine its balance? I know its counter-weighted. I just don't know the specs. If I can figure out how, I'll pass that info on.

Most Flex-plate/Flywheel parts books have the counter weights listed.

I'd say NAPA *might* be able to help you... if you get a good parts man at the counter.

Is there any way to buy a reman flywheel for a manual Buick 350?

  19. The TA catalog shows the same part number for V6 and 350 balancers and flexplate/flywheels so i would think this means they are identical. Bob

DEADMANSCURVE my first word : truck

ta catalog lists the v6 flywheel as part#2035 , the 350 is #2036 . i checked out a buick v6 ( centerline i think ) flywheel at the summit " sale shelf " and the counter guy looked it up for me and it was listed differently than the 350 counterpart . the v6 motors are actually derived from the 300 v8's ( hence the rover application closeness i guess ) but all the short block stuff is similar . top end is where the big difference's show up . del
