Mr. Burek:s piston info was very interesting.
    http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35311
These 3.0 v6 pistons, what pin height do they have?
And how much lift is allowed until one has to make notches for the valves in the piston?
What actual comp. ratio will they give on a non decked block and a std. type head gasket, or the thin steel gasket and 68-70 heads?

I wouldn't even think of trying those pistons without planning on having them notched!!

Piston-to-valve clearances depend on several variables.....how much your block has been decked, the heads shaved, size of the cam, etc.

Never leave something like that to chance!! Either check it yourself with a degree wheel & dial indicator or pay someone to do it for you.:TU:

    Re: Re: 3.0 v6 piston in a 350 v8?

Ok, I re write the question!
I still got some things unanswered
1: What's the pin height?(i just cant find it)
2: How much volume is there in the dish on the stock type pistons?(68-69 4bbl)
3: How deep notch can be made in these (3,0l) pistons?
4: How much piston to valve clearance do "one" need on these 350:s?
    .
I put a small amount off children's "play clay" on the piston and then turn the engine around (wherry gently, not to bend a valve if contact with piston, if i comes to a stop, DON'T push it. must make notches to continue) then measure the impact made by the valve in the clay, this is measuring the clearance the easy way, as i know it!
I use a compressed (old) head gasket, to get the measurement right (can be performed without gasket, as long as one knows how thick the compressed new gasket will be, and ad that to the clay measurement!
Is there anyone who knows a better or easier way to measure valve to piston clearance?

Re: #4 - Shoot for Minimum of .100" on the intake valve and .120" on the exhaust.

We run a little closer on our valve clearance. We have .045 Intake and .070 on exhaust. We also have VERY good valve springs and our driver knows that things are close. And our rev limiter is set on 7000 rpm. We went through the traps at 6600 rpm last Sunday.

How about question #1: What's the pin height?(i just cant find it)
any one knows? (or knows where i might get it answered)?

    Here's a couple of links :

Silv-o-lite Pistons and Federal Mogul. You have to enter in a bunch of info for the Federal Mogul website, but they do have Buick stuff there.

thanks, i will lock at these links,
