First off, people mis use or confuse the term quench and squish.

okey doke, you defined squish. howsa bout you gimme something to work with for quench? :Brow:

seriously, i've looked online and most of the magazine articles say these terms are interchangeable.

Okay, my understanding is that quench is the area in the head or the piston where the dish is, or open part of the chamber. A chambe r with squish will literally squeeze everything out of it and force it into the quench area. Make sense? Jim Burek

Guys... "quench" and "squish" are the same regarding what happens in the cylinder, so don't worry about getting terminology messed up! You're describing the same thing. Even us modern-day enjuneer types use the terms interchangeably, though "quench" sounds much more manly.

If you wanna get down to the nitty-gritty, use "quench" to describe the physical features of the engine that push the mix into the larger area of the chamber. You can then say the turbulant mix was "squished" into the larger area.
