That don't look like it's off any Nailhead to me.......judging by the thermostat housing it may be a Mopar manifold, but I'm probably wrong. Dual Quads on a Nailhead were '64 to '66 only and did not look like that.:bglasses:
That's what had me wondering. My thermostat housing is not on the intake. Also there is no gas bypass (whatever the little gutter is called) on the rear carb.
The purpose of that passage is to pre-heat the carb when cold to improve driveability. It works when the heatriser is closed. It also prevents carb icing in cool, humid weather. The downside to it is that in hot weather, it will hurt performance b/c you want a cooler, more dense charge of air to enter the intake to make more power. That's why some of us plug the passages in the manifold and remove the heatriser. As long as cold operation is no concern, it is worth the performance gain to most of us.:bglasses:
Thanks for the info. I just put a 2x4 on my 401. I wish I had known that earlier. I live in Houston and obviously cold is not a concern. Rick
My reference books show this intake is from a 1956 341ci 320hp Desoto Adventurer Hemi engine. Wouldn't you really rather have a Buick?
320 Horses in 1956 with a stock 341 and thats rated HP....WOW....Nowonder they tried to call it a NAILHEAD!!! I LOVE THOSE NAILHEAD MILLS!!!
Chad, the De Soto was a Chrysler product....Hemi motor......the Nailhead that year was 322, I don't know the specs. for the Buick, but I don't think they were that high. What special 57 meant was that manifold was in fact from a Mopar, not a Buick. I thought it just didn't look right.:bglasses:
that thing got a hemi ? chrysler part number 1731560 parts group 9-48-7 is a 1956 desoto model S-24 adventurer intake manifold. if somebody thinks that fits a buick they will be disappointed. its a hemi part. should someone write the seller ? doh ! i should've read john's post a lil more carefully. henry
I let the seller know, but it took him a while to remove the listing. It says seller ended due to an error in listing.
