    Buick rodders,
I have a 2x4 intake system and when it is placed on the engine the bottom hits the valley cover. All holes line up correctly, however, it seems like I need a pair of 1/2 inch spacers. Any ideas as to the correct fix? :Do No:
    Thanks,
    Doug

If it's the finned style just shave the fins down, common problem.

If it's the steel one, humm? Maybe a set of those intake spacers from North West Speed?

I'd gladly trade you an Offenhauser aluminum intake for your stock one! It'll give you the extra clearance. :Brow: :bglasses:

But the cast iron intake should clear the stamped steel cover, unless you're using the early cover with the built-in pcv.

You have to be careful with the intake risers because the clearance between the top of the air cleaner and the bottom of the hood is pretty skinny. Better to shave the valley pan to fit under the intake if possible. If you are running an aftermarket air cleaner there may be a bit more room but still probably tight.

    Info is helpful

    Buick Rodders,
I thank you for the insight. Yes, the valley cover has the fins. So I suppose I will have to massage the intake and cover to allow for the correct fit. Any other thoughts are appreciated. :)

You could always mill off the heat riser passage but don't expect quick warm-ups, especially if you plan on driving the car in cold weather.

    same issue

I too was pissed off last friday evening when I dug out the mooneyes vally cover and put it on and my dual quad intake would not fit and I wasnt sure If the cover could be milled enough to make it fit or not.I also ponderd the removal of the heat riseer passage but didnt know if it was possable,Has anyone actually done that?

    Made my own risers

    Buick Rodders,
Well, I took the bull by the horns and ordered some 2 x 1/2 inch thick aluminum stock , made some measurements and started to cut the holes out using a metal intake gasket as a template. MAN you ought to see the finished product! Took about one day and some muscle pain but the manifold sits just high enough without hitting the hood, airfilter and all.
    Best of luck

    valley cover

    Doug,
Back in the day,Buick offered a deeper valley cover to go with the 2x4 set up. :Smarty: And that is the real fix. You can fab a deeper valley cover and use shorter bolts to hold it down. Of course there is always the problem of water getting in there and rusting the thing out so use aluminum or stainless.

Install a set of our intake risers and pick up some power in the process.
