I currently have 275/60/15's on my 72 GS on the stock 15X7 rallye rims. I am contemplating on changing them to 295/50/15's .
??'s are can they still be mounted on the stock rims and can this be done without modifying(cutting up) the wheel well lip.
    TIA

A 295/60 x15 tire won't fit on the the factory 15 x 7 rallye wheel. You can fit it on, but it's not a good fit. A friend put the same tire on his 71 GS455, we had to trim the wheel trim molding and lip, he used an alum. wheel, if I remember right it was 8.5" wide. There wasn't any more room to the inside or outside with this tire and a stock wheelhouse.

I thought as much. I don't want to go through the hassle of messing up the wheel housings. The body of my car is in really good shape. O well, figured I'd ask before I spend the bucks on new tires!
    Thanks for the quick response.

I have 295/50R16 on the back of my 70 GS455 and have lots of room. I have been told that our cars have the biggest wheel wells of the GM line up. I am planning to put 315/35R17 on the back of my car. It is all in the offset of the wheels.

Thanks for the reply Joe, but I was hoping to keep my stock rallye wheels.
    Thanks again

John, what width (8 or 10 inch) and what offset did you get. I believe(could be wrong) that the standard offset is 4.5 inches,

    TIA for the info.

Went there once with a friend of mine. Usually the first Saturday of the month during the "warm" season. I usually dont take my car in, but kinda drive "around" the area sort of getting stared at. A lot of the locals(mustang, ricer crowd) never saw a GS and they think its an SS or a Goat, I just smile and let them think what they want. Most of the guys there have Chevies and Stangs, a lot of street rods and customs, although there have been a lot of exotics lately. Seen a Ferrari there this past summer. Heck there was even a Hemi Cuda there this summer.

If you've never been there, you might like it, or hate it depending on who you meet. A lot of different personalities(egos) there!!

Mike, you dont happen to have a green GS do you? The reason I am asking is a few years ago I met a guy at Hershey who was showing his car and I believe he was from either Pottsville or Hazleton. Just wondering if it was you?

Scott, do you or your brother ever go there???

the green gs you refer to ,is Ken Dalaney's . he is really into the show part. i have a 70 white gsx 4 speed that i owned since high school ,way back in 1974. i bought the car to use and still drive it ,..like it was built for it .but alot less then in the old days ,about 200 to 500 miles a year. but is still the most remembered car in schuylkill county. because of being so different and around for such along time.

    Bill,

also not to get off the subject ...but is your car color the factory cranberry red? My suncoupe was cranberry out of the factory. When I bought her back in 86 she was really faded. I had her painted back then and thought the color too light. I had an image in my head of your color. I am about to gett the body and paint done again and am looking for a color. (just...like...yours:Brow: let me know so I can ape it.

    thanks

    P 295 on a 15x7 rim

Bill, I have a 71 Gs and went with P295 Dunlop Qualifiers on my 15x7 s in the rear. No trimming was needed, no scraping or rubbing around corners. They fit just fine. I have 14x6 s up frt. with p245 Dul. Qual. They aren't the stickiest tires but for street driving they look great and handle fine. Just my .02

Michael, its a factory color, in fact its an optional color. The code is 73 (or X) on the sales sheet. Its called "Vintage Red" and was offered on the Riviera's but was extra on the other models. Its darker in the photo than what she really is, but it different than most you see on the street.
If you ever saw the new Ford Crown Vics in their maroon and the Chryslers (they all look alike to me)maroon--this color is right in between!!

    So-
Are we all pretty much in agreement that 295-50-15 tires will fit?
Before I order 15x8 Buick wheels and mount this size tires on the rear, I hope somebody has tried this and it fits.
    Please help
    Thanks
