Just bought 2 BFG tires for my 15x10 wheels..Man,wasn't ready for $436 bucks..And I still want to get some slicks yet..My budget is killed. Going to pick up a set of front runner and 15x10 Centerline wheels Saturday to put the tires on..It's sad when you pay 1/2 for a nice set of wheels than the tires..Last 295's I paid about $250 bucks for..

Yep, one of the reasons I started switching over to 17"-20" wheels and tires on a lot of my vehicles was that 15" wheels and tires cost more than the bigger stuff....I'd contemplated keeping the Cragars on my Mach 1 and putting a set of aluminum slots or Cragars on my F100, but when I can get custom wheels and tires in 18" or 20" for less, it didn't make sense anymore (I know you're doing a day 2 build, but just stating the 15" stuff is out of hand price wise).

I just ordered pair of BFG Radial T/A 245R60X15 from a local dealer @ $200 cdn each + 13% tax. Back in 2002, I purchased same tire but size 225R70x14 for $100 cdn.

Don't buy Centerline. They went out of business a year or so ago. I purchased my Centerline's at Summit and they forgot to balance them. I ran them up to the tire store to have them balanced and tech called me back and showed me the excessive run out of the wheels. They had a 2 year warranty and I only had them 22 months so I took them back to Summit. The guy at Summit told me that Centerline had gone out of business 6 weeks ago. Luckily, Summit gave me 100% credit towards another set. I do see Centerline wheels listed in the Summit catalog at very low prices. It's either what they have left or the company has reopened and if that's the case, they're probably made over seas. I ended up with Billet Specialties wheels. Watch the Billet Specialties video on the Summit web site. Fantastic wheels made 100% from design to packaging in the USA>

BFG's are stupid expensive these days. The set I put on the green car when it got done were more than double what I paid for a set 6 or 7 years prior. I have Coopers on the white car and they are a better performing tire in every aspect. I get that BFG's have become somewhat of a "classic muscle car" tire or whatever, but honestly, they're lackluster (at best) but with a premium price. I can't wait to burn them off the car so I can replace them with something else (most likely Coopers).

I'm trying out the Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/T radials. Looking at the 275/60s MTs were 135/tire while the BFGoodrich tires were 172/tire.

I have been running the Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/T's on my 68 for four years with zero complaints. When they need replacing I will buy them again.

Well, I received a phone call this afternoon, looks like there is a wait time on the 295 BFG's So, I will be shopping for some Coopers or MT's now..Guess that's a sign.As for the Centerline wheels, they are old school (circa 70's-early 80's) I really wanted some matching wheels and the guy has all 4 in great shape for sale. They were on his Camaro and his 70 Chevelle.

Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/T radials are the best in my opinion. I like the look and they can be bought for a fair price.

226.74 installed each at Costco. I'm wondering how Coopers can be so much less.

I was recently talking to my longtime friend/ local independent tire shop owner; he says that since nothing comes with 15 inch tires anymore, they just sit in a warehouse sometimes for years. He also said something that REALLY disturbed me: Some places are 'restamping' the date codes on the sidewall, for those of you that know how to read them. And for those that don't: https://www.tirebuyer.com/education/how-to-determine-the-age-of-your-tires

Head that as well, could very well be true.. I know for a fact they re-pack/label old and sometimes not safe fireworks year after year..

I've had very good service out of the Mickey T's. I just don't wear them out fast enough, they get hard and don't bite like new.

But if you really want traction on the street try the Nitto NT05's, wow!!! Expensive but worth it, downside is they wear quickly but despite the thread pattern work very well in the wet; snow traction is non existant so park it.

Do not buy the NT555's as they offer no more traction than the MT's at twice the price.
