I just got through test driving my new BFG Radial > T/A 295/50/15 rear tires... AWESOME!! > > Perfect fit, fills the wheelwell, no fitment issus > at all. None. They don't bulge but just a little, > either, on a stock backspacing JJ 15x7 wheel! Pics at http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/gsconv/album?.dir=/1917 I recommend them for the most aggressive look!
Those shots from the rear make the tire barely visible. Could you reshoot the photo and try to illuminate the tire? Sorry to ask. Are you running sway bars? If so, what diameter? Stock? Sometimes big rubber in the back will leave the car unbalanced and sway bars need to be changed. Yardley had this problem once. How tall are these tires? If close to the 245 60 15 this would be good.
Exactly....even 275/60s are pushing 7 in rims....though it's done all the time. I have 245/60s on my Riv on 6 in rims.....not good but gets me down the road. Bruce
It is done sometimes. It looks killer and drives fine. I got the idea from a fellow board member ( http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=56298 )and I'm very happy so far. I don't race or drive crazy anyway. I'm going to put 275/50/15's on the front and expect the same good results. (As an aside, I put 305/70/16 Goodyear Radial ATS tires on my Z71 and had perfect results and knockout looks too... those size tires "don't" fit stock rims either...) I'll try to get a better pic so everyone can see! Frank
Hi Jarrod... the 350 comes out Saturday and the 455 goes in within 2 weeks to be ready for the BBQ on the 20th! PM to follow... Frank
According to the BFG spec sheet: The 245 60 15 tire is 26.6 inches tall The 295 50 16 is 26.7 inches tall The only real problem with stretching the tire over the rim (other than some shops might refuse to mount it) is that you create a bit more of a pressure point at the center of the tread. This would wear out the middle of the tire a bit faster. As if any of us care about that. My biggest concern would be in the handling and breaking department. I think the bigger tire would induce more understeer much like puitting a bigger sway bar on the front. But this might be counteracted by the tire being stretched over the rim. Hmmmmm?????
When I went to the really big meats, the 6" rim made the rear so sloppy the handling was not only unpredictable, but very dangerous. Switching to 8" rims only helped a little. The big thing was the side wall and how soft they are. Even with 255s I still have to pump the rears up to 38 or 40 lbs to make the car controllable. Could be the suspension combination or something else, but I have it under control with tire pressure.
I bought the tires from Tire Rack, had them drop shipped to my local Firestone, and they mounted them. They thought they were a little wide too (and they are :Brow: :beer ) Here are some more pictures. In the rear shot, the car isn't sitting crooked, that's just poor photography... (mine) :spank: Frank
I wouldn't think twice about the size on your rim Frank. I did the same on my 6" rim when I went with 245's. BFG sheet says i need a 7" rim. BFG has to draw the line somewhere. And as soon as you draw a line....someones gotta cross it!!!
