hey, i'm curious if anyone has tried this size tire up front on an 8inch rim
not sure if i can use a 7 as min is 7.5

the tire is only 26.1 tall and section width is 11.3 bfgoodrich didnt list the tread width..

but yea do you think an 8inch wide rim with 5.5 or even 5.3/4 bs or so would fit this baby in the fronts?

if the protouring guys can mount a 275-40- 17x9 combo in the front i should hopefully be able to do the same with the 15 combo

i'll be an inch narrower then the 17 combo, but about half an inch taller

My 275-60R15's are right on the edge on my 8" rims. I wouldn't put less aspect ratio or more width without more rim.

Don't forget wider tires increase the tendency to hydroplane, if that's a factor at all in your decision making.

no worries about that, i always adjust my driving style to the weather..

i may just try my 275-60 with an 8 in but air it down to where it'd be about 26' hi and just see where its out at full lock both left and right

that'd give me an idea on how much more BS i'll need

if im not mistaken i have 265 45 15 on mine with an 8 inch rim and before it hit the fender, what i have to do is ad a 1 inch spacer and rear traction air bags, and problem solved, i had to remove 1 bolt on each side and also on reverse there is a light rub but not too much, i cant imagine anything bigger without buick 455 big block springs, which i dont have:confused:

when i purchased my gs in 2000, it came with a set on pontiac t/a snowflake(?) 15x7 rims. the tires were bfg 275r50x15 on all four rims. no rubbing under normal turning. they sure did make a big footprint on the road. i cannot tell u what the backspacing was.
anyhow i sold the rims to one fellow and the tires to another fellow.

    cool, thanks

i think i'll just order something in the middle of what 17x8s and 17x9 typicaly calls for and call it a day

i may have to trim the quarter lip to fit my 15x10s/325-50-15s on the rear, so might as well trim the fronts to match the rears haha

btw, tire rack lists width range for 275-50-15s at 7.5 to 9.5
actual measuring rim is 8.5 with a section width of 11.3
now mount it on a 8in wide rim and the section width will go down to an 11.1 which woiuld be the exact same section width of a 275-60 on a 15x8!
so my idea on airing down a 275-60 on a 15x8 to a diameter of 26inches should work pretty well.

i'll have to try it soon ..hopefully we get another warmish day

The fronts should fit as long as your bs is good, but there is no lip to trim in the front.

I'm thinking 5in bs should do it, might order a percy wheel imulator to make sure...it's only like 70 bucks

The front of my Regal is 8", 4-3/4 B/S with a 265-60-15 BFG.
Honestly wouldnt want to go much more, with out modifications that I will not do to the car.

I'm sure I can fit this combo up front, but i'm sure I'll also have to kiss the idea of a front swaybar also

so which would you think handles better...1in drop springs, 15x8 w/ 275-50s or 1in drop, 15x7 w/ 235-60 and hotckis extreme front swaybar?

If you air the tire down, you do not reduce the diameter. All you have is a flat tire.

I think thoes 50 series tires on anything less than a 10" wheel is gonna hurt the tire. Sure they fit but after a short while you will bald the center of the tires and then ur back to Sq 1. Your tires, your $'s, your call.

I wouldn't spend the money on the swaybar. Hit a wrecking yard and get the 1-1/4" front swaybar from a 70-81 Z28 or Trans Am (preferably a WS6) and buy new poly endlinks and bushings and save yourself a lot of $$$.

If you go with a 1" drop and want to increase stiffness, I'd go with the drop springs. You're also going to have to realign the front end and will probably have to add shims or offset upper control arm shafts to get the alignment right. If you want to retain ride quality, go with a drop spindle.

I used to have 2" drop springs in front with the offset shafts and the car rode like a pickup truck without a load. With the 2" drop spindles the ride is a lot smoother. I have a 1-1/4" front swaybar from a '74 SuperDuty T/A and the handling seems to be about the same either way, although I've replaced the rubber bushings on the swaybar and end links with poly ones.

I've been thinking getting 17" wheels but I'd like to know how the wide 15" front works out for you. I've got 235/60-15 fronts and 265/50-15 rears on mine. What brand of tires are you looking at?

i was looking at the bigger hotchkis front sway bar due to my rear hr parts and stuff rear bar being 1.25

I was looking at bf g-force radials...also nitto 444s have the 325-50 rear and 275-50 fronts
