I am interested in swapping a 72 350 for my 264 during my rebuild of my 54. Is there a trans adaptor for this swap? If so where would I find it? No luck on internet searches. OR am I going to have to swap both eng and trans while I rebuild the 264 over the winter? all help appreciated.

    Thanks,

As long as you understand that the '54 is just a little out of my league, I'll take a shot at helping as much as I can.

For starters, I know for a fact that nailhead to BOP tranny adaptors exist. Call Jegs directly and have the opperator look it up manually. Chevy to BOP adaptors start at less than $100, but for such a rare piece as the nailhead, I would expect to pay a lot more.

Many years ago, I swaped a 231 and 200R4 into a 52 chevy that originally had an inline 6 with a powerglide. That setup used a torque-tube style driveshaft... Does your '54 use a torquetube, or conventional 'shaft with universal joints???? Might make a big diff. I also swaped in a 9'' furd rear with a custom shaft.

You might want to give a little consideration to the trans/shaft/rear end holding up to [double the hp] of a 72 350.

Something else,,, considered how your going to mount the 350 to the frame? Custom home made motor mounts are a real PITA :moonu:
A motor-plate [torque plate] may require drilling or welding to the frame... Do you want to do that to the car?

If your final intentions are to put the nailhead back into the car, and you just want to use the 350 as a temporary mill while you rebuild.... Is it really worth that much trouble????? It would be easier, and cheaper in the long run, to pay a little more for another running nailhead to bolt directly in while you rebuild the "numbers matching" motor.

Fill me in on your true intentions, and how original you want to keep everything, and we will go from there.
