Hey guys, I got a chevy 250ci straight six in my 69 Special Deluxe and I was looking into upgrading a few things. I really want to put headers and a dual exhaust (not sure if that's weird or available for a non-V engine) and put dual-single carbs on it. I've seen a few intakes that would let me put a 2 and 4-barrel on it but wouldn't that just drown it? If so, is there anything I can do to allow me to put a 2/4 barrel on it? Thanks

I did this years ago. Going from memory on this so bear with me...

If your engine isn't original to that year, you need to start with a cylinder head from a 1974 or earlier engine which used separate intake and exhaust manifolds; the later years use an integrated manifold and I don't think there was much aftermarket stuff out there. I bought an Offenhauser four barrel aluminum intake and used a quadrajet. For exhaust I used headers w/true duals...it was basically three tubes into each collector. I ran a warmer cam, milled and decked the head/block for 9.5:1 compression, I think I went 0.060" overbore w/cast pistons, high volume oil pump. The engine thought it was a small block after that, ran like a champ.

Spend some time on google.com and I'll bet you'll be able to come up with a lot of ideas.

Visit inliners.org it is a site full of knowledge about these engines.Besides the information there they have some advertising vendors that are very good for giving their advise even if you are not purchasing their product.Great group over there.

Leo Santucci wrote a good book about the Chevy inline a couple of years ago,buy one if you are serious about the I6 performance, it has some good tips and figures. Now that I think about it,you can purchase it from the above site also.Good luck.
