I have finally checked the cam phasing in my '68 and am planning to make some changes.

This is Lunati's version of the "popular mechanics" shootout cam. By the card, it should be set at 112 degrees which is 4 degrees advanced. Mine checked out at 114 degrees, which I interpret as another 2 degrees advenced for a total of 6.

    Am I getting this right?

I am considering backing the cam off to the "retarded" position on my 3-way timing set. The car has plenty of low end torque, too much taken in combination with my 14" wheels and street radial tires. I've always thought it was soft on the top end, not pulling as hard as it should. I'll trade some low end for a better top end pull if I can...

    Nope, you have it backward..

114* Intake Centerline would 2* retarded, not advanced.

    I'll have to draw a picture -

Thanks Jim - that gives me something to think about. I'll re-check my work tonight.

Given that I'm not going to make dramatic gains from dialing the cam in and the bad press the "fast ramp" cams have had, I may give TA a call....
