I’m putting together a 215 , and I have several front covers with the cam driven external oil pump, I also have a Rover front cover with the crank driven integral oil pump, which would be better, pump wise ? The Rover cover has no fuel pump boss and I would need to convert to the serpentine belt, this isn’t much of an issue, but it would be wasted work if the oil pump isn’t any better.

The crank driven oil pump is far superior. Same type of pump on my 3800 in my 98 Riv. Oil pressure is stellar.

Well, it seems that I can’t use the Rover cover anyway, the key on the Buick crank doesn’t extend out to the end of the crank, so there’s nothing to drive the harmonic balancer. Apparently Rover extended the cover to accommodate the oil pump and made the keyway on the crank longer and shortened the drive sleeve on the balancer.
