In California that ticket would not hold up in court since using a timing device is considered a "speed trap." He would however be ticketed for "unsafe speed" with an "estimate." A radar ticket here is only good (i.e., can't be successfully challenged) if your speed is greater than the speed 85 percent of drivers maintain on a given stretch of road during a recent "engineering and speed survey" using a correctly calibrated and certified radar.
Saw this on a Subaru forum I frequent. Dont know how much I'd trust a stop watch reaction, but even if it were a few 10ths off, 180 is still d--- fast.
www.thesmokinggun.com has a copy of the ticket. Here's a video of a hyabusa popping a wheelie at 55mph and rides the wheelie to 140mph and then goes past the speedo (220mph). http://www.197358246.com/hyabusa.wmv
Now thats awesome!!!! I cant beleive how slow it looked like it was going after running over 220 then at 100 it looked like about 10 mph !!!
What's a ZRX? o No: Is that like a street bike (Cruiser type)? o No: Strange to have a 5 speed, instead of 6. I had a '90 Ninja ZX10 (1000 cc), saw 175mph in 5th, ran out of road to a quick curve (almost missed it), but 6th was 200+, for sure. Once, to find out "Top Speed", was enough. Most 1000's/1100's/1200's/(and now Suzuki's 1300's, which recently broke the Land Speed record at the Salt Flats) Sportbikes are EASILY capable of 200! :Smarty: Going that Fast, I'm surprised the guy even got "caught". :TU:
That movie is absoluty friggin nuts. Its sick how fast the speedo climbed, all the way to 220. scary fast.
And highway 61 isn't a freeway either-it's right along the Mississippi with all kinds of potential for someone to pull out in front of that kid. His dad's a deputy sheriff, too!
This convo is going on at another forum as well. Apparently the hyabusa speedo's are "registered" or something so after 80mph, they're about 20mph off. It's still 200mph though.
Ever gone 200mph? lol Niether have I unless you count the jet I flew to florida in. Didn't look like we were going 420+mph then either.
It would be very hard to fake so no one would know cause. You should be able to find out the gearing of the bike easy, then figure out if the RPM and gear he is in could do that MPH/ RPM. but you would have to assume some of the sprocket info.
Yea, the other board did the gear/speed thing. Top speed should be around 205mph which goes with the 20mph off thing I said earlier.
