OK..... I have been reading threads in "small block tech" for a few weeks now, and it seems there are a BOAT LOAD of options...

I am going to be rebuilding my 350-4 out of my 72 lark, and I am hoping to start around $2000-$2500. I have a good mechanic (family friend) but personally I know absolutely nothing about rebuilding an engine.

What I am looking for is someone to basically create me a list of things to do, and upgraded parts to buy. Is it even possible to rebuild & supercharge this engine for this price?

This is not a daily driver, or a race car. It's just a weekend cruiser, but I definitely want a good amount of power. My engine appears to be in good shape, but I do have 2 running 350's.

If you are a guru that can create me a night combination of parts, without too much custom work, great! If my budget is too low, I have no problem in selling off some of my extra parts to pay the bills!!

Thanks in advance! I will continue to research, for education if nothing else..

    :beers2:

I think your going to come close to your budget just in machining costs.

Just did a 72 350-4 - Machine work for the complete long block set up with cleaning the tins and complete rebuild kit with cam and lifters bone stock was $1,800.00 that's being friends with the owner... he said it would have run around $2,300 to $2,500 normally..

Find a good running 350 thats been gone through, or a low mile unit and do a re-ring job. Save the machining costs?

Spend the money on upgrade parts.

I'm currently doing my 71 350 with the following on top of previous mods.

    rebuilt Qjet carb
    new TA manifold
    new TA cam/lifters
    refinish heads
    hone cylinders, new rings, bearings
    port heads
    port intake if necessary
    new timing chain
    rebuild distributor

Motor is being done by someone else and is almost complete. Pretty sure it will easily go past the 2K mark as the parts themselves cost $$. I don't think its wise to take any short cuts so if something doesn't look or feel right I'm having it changed. In the end the only thing uncertain will be labor and machine cost!

i agree with jason. u would be looking at $4000 to have any maching of the head, crank, cylinders, line bore + parts.
it does pay to have a friend who can perform the machine work.
