How should i put gaskets between manifold and Rochester? When i took carb off there are 3 of them 2 composites and 1 stainless sandwitched.:Do No:
Second thing is that i have overflow tank and i just realised i havent seen it on any other pic of 66 Rivs nor at any store, should it be there?
    Thanks for any input.

As far as the overflow tank, it's a good thing! I installed one in my '62 so it wouldn't spew coolant everywhere when it got hot.

For the gaskets, Buick used the composite gasket on the manifold, and the metal one against the carb. The original metal gaskets had a thin layer of softer metal on them so they would seal better. If you can find some spray-on copper gasket sealer, that would work well.

Do not over tighten the carb mounting bolts! That can warp the carb.

if the bottom of the carb is not aluminum you may not need the metal gasket. i put my gaskets on sandwiched like that. the metal stops fumes from eating the bottom of some carbs and helps a little on stopping some
heat to the carb. other people will say just use one gasket and the metal
one. i have had good sealing with the sandwich type. jim

Thanks for that advice but i am afraid its to late now:Dou: ,someone before had to overtighten them already. Now i am working on the unwarping tool, hope its gonna work.
So far i have prepared throttle body and still waiting to get all screws, upper plates, springs and rods to be chromed.I ll post apics of carb when i am gonna finish it.Here is teaser:Brow:

I see that we have an artist in Poland..... makes me jealous..... Kac, you can often straighten up a warped carb base by putting a sheet of wet or dry sandpaper on a piece of plate glass and using oil between the sand paper and carb base sand the warp out of it.....that is if it isnt too bad..... if it is badly warped you run a risk of breaking the alluminum if you try to bend it back straight.....

i forgot the 2 questions,,,, no, the catch can did not come on the 66 rivs....now the gaskets,,,, the composit ,thick gasket goes between the intake manifold and the heat shield,,,, and there should be a thin paper type gasket between the heat shield and the carb base....

The thin paper makes sense as the stainless gasket is flat and imo couldnt seal it properly. As for the warp the air horn has about 1 mm of warpage when you compare center and sides, so it is rly big bow....Main body has similiar warp..I thought i will heat the carb in oven to 250 farenheits and than try to tighten screws abit every 20 minutes or so.Guess the material of wich carb is made will get a little ''plastic'' when heated?I have been thinking of using sandpaper on straight surface and it would work for air horn but main body has that little emm things wich helps to seal the gasket, so i think i shouldnt flaten them?:Do No:
Btw i am sure throttle body is made of aluminium but rest looks like its made of pot metal or is it just my impression?

    Kac,
just some ideas,,,,,, rather than try to straighten the stuff out ,,, you might try to fill the center and then flatten it with the sand paper and glass like I was talking about.... you are right,, the base plate is alluminum and the main body is pot metal.... I dont think that I would put heat to either one of them.... just bolt the base and main body back together and then flatten the base with the combination of filler and sanding.... or best of all just take the base to a machine shop and have them cut the base untill it is flat....

    Doc,
base[;ate is super straight and flat, only main body and air horn are warped:idea2: .And what you mean by filling the center ?Like with JB weld? I was thinking that maybe i should just take fatter gasket as the main body and air horn are warped in the same pattern? To unwarp carb i was thinking of making something similiar to this:http://www.quadrajetcarburetors.com/unwarp-tool.html

Yep, apparantly I did not understand correctly.... I was talking about the base plate.....I dont see why that gizmo wont work,,,, a carb is made out of soft metal, that is why they warp in the first place.... give it a try,,, you may be on to something......
