Seems like cars are falling out of the sky on me the last few weeks here! I find them each week. That's great till money runs low. I found a very solid 71 Boat-tail 2 weeks back that only needs brakes up to make a nice driver. I bought it for $1000. Found a parts 66 Impala SS car that was complete for a few hundred dollars. Console car with dash mounted tach and good running small block. So, dad bought it. Finally bought a dual quad 425 complete and freshly rebuilt engine from an old friend. It is all there!!!! So, he tells me days later that I can have the original car it came from too for free. I go check it out today. 64 Electra with many rare options. 4 door hardtop car that is very solid. Decided to take it. When I go back to tell him it will be leaving, he tries to sell me a 67 Special. I go look at it and find a complete running when parked 67. Quarters are rusty and fenders may need a little patch work. Opened the hood to find a V6 engine. Still has the original paint in rough shape. Later on a buddy in North Carolina found a 70 GTO body minus engine and tranny. No rust and the ram air hood. Bench seat car.

So, today I got offered 2 cars. 70 GTO and 67 Special. Both are the same amount of money. GTO has no engine and tranny. Special is complete but with more rust. I can't buy both. So, which would you go for??? Would the V6 Special have any good parts like a low ratio posi rear? It appeard to have a S.P. tranny. That tranny is desireable?? Give me an opinion.

Go with the goat. Even with a non #s matching engine and trans its still gonna be worth way more then the special.

Yep the Goat :TU: They are bringing big money in my area. People seem to go nuts over them. Even a clone with non matching # brings good money. The Goat with a 455 and TH400 raises eye brows. :Brow:

I wanted to explain my Special vote. Specials are plain cars, not much in trim or muscle appeal. Also not much in the resale value when restored, or on the black market if stolen. Thus a prime candidate for any/and everything modified. I often thought it would be great to drop one of the 96 to 99 Supercharged 3800's in there, with the Turbo 350 or 400. The GTO would be nice, but without the original motor it would be modified no matter what. So, how many supercharged 67 Specials are there, vs modified GTO's? Looking at your list of cars, I think you'd keep the car once finished, so the Buick would be easier to keep and drive daily.

I would go for the GTO. Even though I love Buicks I am member of GTOAA which to me is one of the true American muscle cars (a friend has a 70 GTO matching number RamAir IV). / Hans

    If You Take the GTO...

How much and where is the Special. Is it a 2 door post car. Was looking for one a few years back to build a N/SS car and had to settle for a hardtop.
    Thanks

Go with the car that will take the least amount of work to get into nice shape, in this case the GTO. It will be worth it in the long run. When I was buying my GTO I had the chance to buy a brewester green 1973 trans am with a perfect body but no engine/tranny. I chose my GTO, 7 years later the GTO is still not done but with the amount of motorwork I had to put in the car I would have had the trans am done three years ago.

And by the way the 1967 is the best year for the GTO :3gears:

My '67 GS 400 is my favorite car of all the vehicles we own, but if I had to chose between the 2 that you describe...I'd go with the GTO. The GTO will be much easier to sell than the V6 Buick regardless of how nice you make it. Unfortunately if you had to sell the Buick Special later, you would never get out of it what you spent on it. We really like our GTOs but Buicks are still our favorite.

GTO owner decided to take the car to a local garage and put an engine and trans in it to make it worth a pretty penny. So, it is now out. 67 Special for around $750 is what is left now. But, it has a pretty good amount of rust.

  17. Drop a BBB in the GTO!
