I have a 73 Lesabre with a 2 barrel, 350. No air. but has smog pump. I want to replace it with a 4 barrel quadrajet and take all the smog stuff off. Is this easy to do ? Do I have to block some passages or something on the heads???? I also want to get an extra snorkel air cleaner and make a nice open element air cleaner out of it. Paint it black and use the original style stickers on it. Please advise Thanks
Depending on the your ndividual state laws it may no longer pass inspection if you remove the emissions controls.
4bbl intake would go on with no problems. You will have to get a longer throttle cable though, preferably off of a donor car or new if available. The '71 and older intakes don't have the smog pump air passages, unless you plan on aftermarket aluminum. Ted
It's an internal combustion engine Seriously, though, it's a pump turned by a pully, that compresses air and injects it into the exhaust manifolds to cool the exhaust gas.
Gary, A and A auto parts on 9th Ave. in Bradenton has a '70 Skylark 4dr with a 350 4bbl engine in it. No carb, though. Copher's in Bradenton has a '78 Electra with a Buick 350 4bbl engine. The carb was on it yesterday along with the HEI distributor. Ted
you may not need the throttle cable. my 70 when swapping I used the brackets and existing cable. bolted up perfectly. I also found a 70 carb though so brakets were correct.
