Do 68-72 two and four door skylarks share the same frame? My buddy wants to take his 71 body and drivetrain off and put it on a 68 four door skylark frame that he can purchase.He has never done this,though he has done just about everything else,and is very capable of doing.Is there a step by step process of a body off project that he can read? Thanks.
I am not an expert on '68-72 A bodies but I do know the '64-65 very well. In '64-65 the frame/wheelbase is the same for the 2 door hardtop, 2 door sedan, and the 4 door sedan. It is also the same for the Special Wagon. The Sportwagon had a longer wheelbase thus a longer frame. I currently own both a '65 2 door hardtop and a '65 Skylark 4 door. I replaced the frame under the 4 door and compared it side by side with my buddy's '65 GS frame. Sizewise they were identical although the GS frame was boxed as are convertible frames. Again all this only applies to '64-65 for sure. I would suspect that it continued into 68-72 but I have no direct knowledge of these models. Sorry to question another poster's advice.
On 68-72 model GM A bodies, the 2dr models had a 112" wheelbase and the 4 door models had a 116" wheelbase. Two completely different frames and they will not interchange.
