I met the Eggman and fellow friend Kevin Hamner at Quaker City Raceway today for the Hollywood Knight's Invitational Track Rental. I finally got to make some passes on PROJECT86. Another day of mixed emotions, but overall a success and a valuable lesson learned. I started off with a good smokey burnout.

I laid down for my first pass since the wreck, a 13.375 at 100.13MPH. Just a great feeling to get passed that hurdle. I ran BFG drag radials on that first pass and again they didn't hook. I could not brake torque and I shifted very conservatively at 5K and went from 1st directly into drive.... :Dou: I was pretty gooned up.

For the second pass, we slapped the Eggman's Sticky Mickey's and dropped more time. I lined up against the Eggman's (Fastest430) carborated hot-air car. I brake torqued the car to 1200 RPM, shifted at 5500 and made all the shifts. I laid down a 13.042. 750CFM's just wasn't enough, but I was knocking on the door of 12's. If I could brake torque to 2 grand I'd have 'em! :TU:

    3rd pass calamity strikes

Third pass I knew I'd be in the 12's, but calamity strikes have my burnout. My water pump SHATTERED. I was done. After we lost about 1 gallon into a tray on the track we rolled the car off and out of the complex. Don and I sprung into action to attain another water pump on the other side of Youngstown. Quaker closed at 5:00PM and we did our work outside the confines and I drove the car home.

    Lessons learned

What I learned at Test & Tune:

    1. BFG drag Radials are junk, your better off spending your money on swamp land in Florida.

    2. I need more CFM

    3. Centripital force is a killer. Ditch the clutch fan the minute you hit the 13's. Too much rotating mass on the water pump will tear it up.

    4. The Eggman comes through again. Thanks Don for getting my back! :TU:

You'd think since I have work in that car that you might......a.......ya know......like call me and say, hey Dan ole buddy, lets go racing?!?! :blast:
Thats OK, I know you guys with Fast cars don't like us very much. I might take the barge up there this Friday for some slow bracketing.

Bummer about that waterpump. Looks like the car is on its way to some real numbers. I don't think your drag slicks are the problem, I think Quakers track just sucks. If you part with those BFGs, LMK.

Sorry about that Dan, I hadn't heard from you in awhile, just kind of thought you were up to something else. I won't have the car back out till I fix a few things.

    1. I've got to go pickin' for an electric fan from a min-van.

    2. I want to pickup at least Holley or a Demon 900

    3. I've got to flush out my rad. On the way back from the track my temp guage was spiking from 160-190 for the first 2 miles out of Salem. I'm there may be some particles from the shattered water pump in the system.

    4. I'm getting a little vibration when I first pull out in 1st gear.

    5. I may have a tire out of balance, I hope, because around 60 MPH I'm getting vibration also. I've always had problems with these BFG drag radials so I picked up a set of use M/T Street ET's to slap on. Just need to get them mounted.

I think I have three electric fans if you want to try any of them.

Well...I've moved about 80 miles further away from you. But I'm just off the interstate so it'll take the same amount of time as it would trying it traverse our great city.

I didn't get to go either Dan. But I had to work, otherwise I would've run my new Regal (Skylark needs a ball joint). For some strange reason I think I can get into the 14's stock :Do No:

Davey...you need to try that Q-jet from my ex-Regal. I know it'll work...it has to.

It felt good to have the goldmember shuttle me around for parts! Shark, Hamner found an electric fan in his garage, so I'll give that one a try since he's 5 minutes from me, but warm up in the bullpen I need to call upon you! :TU: That water pump even surprised alot of the Hollywood Knights........those dudes are tough competition! I don't think there is a guy in that club that runs slower than a 12. Some of you guys may recall them hanging around the Red Roof at Nats looking for a race. Those dudes will race you anywhere, on the street at the track.........you name it. But they are good dudes, they always hook you up with cheap race parts! :TU: Only Frick Frack bitched about me breaking in the burnout box.......but he can kiss my :moonu:
