My 1995 Lesabre's lamps on warning (a chime, I believe) doesn't work. Also, the dome light does not come on when the front driver side door is opened, but it will when the other three doors are opened. What can I look for to solve these?

By lights on warning light, I believe you mean if/when you leave your lights on, it's supposed to warn you so you don't leave your car with your lights left on. Also, your dome lights don't come on when you open the driver's side door. Sounds like the little switch in the driver's front door frame is stuck or not working. When the door is closed, the switch is in the "in" or off position. When the door is opened, allowing the little pin to extend out, it goes in the "on" position. That's when your dome light is supposed to come on, and also any "door ajar," "keys left in ignition," and "lights on" warnings should flash.

Ah, I like that explanation as it confirms that these issues are probably related. I could not find the switch you are talking about. Can you describe where it is, or is it among the items between the frame and the door covered with rubber? I'd like to try getting access to it instead of paying a diagnostic fee to a mechanic.

Makes you long for the good old days when things were simple, doesn't it.

Unfortunately, the switch for the interior lights is more than likely part of the door latch mechinism.

The "lights on" reminder could be related to the chime module or the body computer module, among probably about a half dozen other things.

If I remember well, in my 1991 Park Avenue Ultra, the switch for the courtesy lights and "headlights on" reminder was in the door latch mechanism (inside the door). Manually closing the latch while the doors were open would turn off the courtesy lights. They did turn off by themselves (another relay!) if the doors were open 5 minutes or more and they remained on when you left the car but not when you entered in :puzzled: (I think!)...
I remember there were many wires in the doors for the door mounted courtesy lights, illuminated entry, speakers, alarm system, power seats, power locks, power windows, mirrors and memory for the seat and mirrors... When the seat and mirror memory began acting strange, I had to clean the contacts under the driver's seat and the contacts to the driver's mirror and everything went back to normal. I never had problems with the courtesy lights however!
Leabres should have a few less of these gadgets and wires but still too many for my taste!

Maybe your switch inside the door is bad or the wire is cut in the flexible tube between the door and the body...
