Does anyone know anything about these cars? When I was a kid my father had one of these little cars and he loved it. I know it's not as fast as any of our Buicks...but it seems like it would be one heck of a track car. I'm currently stationed in Sicily, and all the car enthusiests over here buy the old FIAT Cincuecento 500's or the Mini coopers and restore them for track cars. (not the 1/4 mile drag, I don't think they even know what that is here) I wish I could post some pictures...really cool. and scoot too!! Which got me to thinking about the AMX. Are they hard to find? Would it be worth the effort and $$? Do they have tracks like that State side for test and tune? I know this is a bit off. Thanks Ben
Are you sure it's a 1979 you're looking for? I thought AMX's ceased production when they stopped making Javelins in 74 or 75. AMX's are out there but can be pretty spendy. If it's your thing then you should go for it! They can be made to corner pretty nicely.
Yeah, it was definately a 79. Pop bought it on my birthday....which comes to think of it would make it an 80 (Dec 29 1979). I tried to find one on ebay and came up with nothing...not too much on these little cars. Are they undesirable or just hard to find I wonder? Ben
Thanks guy's...guess I just wasn't looking hard enough!! The guy slling his in FL. sounds a bit fed up....guess I'll contact him and ask a few ?? Thanks for the links  Ben
Hemmings Muscle Machine, Jan '05 issue, has an article on one that one of their editors is going to restore.
A friend of mine in h.school had one and loved it. As you said not to fast but man it could corner. The twisty country roads were a blast!
back in the late 70's, a friend of mine had a 69 amx. It had a 4-speed and a big bock, and it completely blew past me in my 71 gs-455. I never saw a car pass me so fast. I was doin probably 70 with pedal to the floor. My car felt like it was pulling strong, then I looked in the rear view, expecting to see the amx get smaller, and it tore past me like I was sitting still.
I thought I remembered an AMX of that vintage but couldn't remember what econobox they threw the stickers on. The late 70s and early 80s were not the benchmark years of American muscle!!! In those years, the quickest things you could buy were trucks because they weren't quite as strangled with polution control! Ken
I'm thinkin' that it's an AMC Hornet with decals. About as close to a real AMX as an Apollo GSX is to a '70 GSX. Grasping at straws of performance.
These would be the Dodge "Lil Red Express Truck" and it has been roumered of a Dodge "Warlock". Same thing as the Lil Red only they were black and came with a 440 and a 4-speed. Would like to know if these really existed.
