mine has 2.73 in my stock 75 buick electra rear end. my rear end has 10 bolts on the cover but inside is a 12 bolt posi from a 72 impala. i beleive the ring gear size is 8 an 7/8 inch. they used 3 rear ends on those cars that years. my rear end is an odd ball. :Smarty:

You've got an 8 7/8" ring gear and could either have a:
    2.56:1 code UJ
    2.73:1 code UU
    3.23:1 code UX

To find where the code is, I think the only place it is stamped is on the axle itself. The first letter group is the axle ratio, followed by a "B" for Buick, then the day of the year it was built. The last letter is the shift, I don't know what that is, I'm guessing 3 for 3speed tranny.

Now remember, positraction was an option so if you have posi, your code would have a V in it. For example if your Electra had a 3.23 posi unit in it, the axle code would be VX. If you have the 350 engine and the TH375B tranny you would have a 3.08:1 or a 3.08:1 posi

Hope this helps. I'm not totally clear on this but I copied the stuff verbatim from the 76 Buick manual.

The book says it is stamped on the right side of the axle facing forward, however I didn't see it. Is this correct? ANywhere else to look? I think I'll have to do some cleaning to really see what is there.

In 1976, it was supposed to be 2.56.
    In 1975 it was 2.73
    My car has a 2.73 posi, Pontiac-built 8 7/8". 1976 models also have Pontiac 8 7/8" axles.
If you want, you could also order the information about your car from the Sloan Museum. They will provide it to you for something like 20$
they also can send you the percentage of 1976 Electra Limited 4 dr. produced equipped with about every option (including axle ratios).
If you order it, I'd like to compare it with the info I have.

Here is a part of the list they sent me for the 1975 Electra Limited 4 dr. (including all cars with Park Avenue option). Note that some options are quite rare (Like 2.56 axle ratio - 0.03%) and others are quite common (like a/c - 99.8%)

I have heard of that Park Avenue deluxe option. What is the deal with it? What extended options does it include? The Park Avenues were sweet in 75 and 76. How do I order that info from the museum? Is there a website?

Here are the links to the Sloan museum's research center

    https://sloanmuseum.com/research_form.html

    http://www.sloanmuseum.com/buick_gallery.html

The 1975 Park Avenue Deluxe included standard positive traction differential, tilt/telescopic steering (deleted with credit if airbags were ordered), stereo radio, automatic climate control and probably a few other options.
Only 37 cars had this option.
This is what they provide you for 25$ if you give them your car's serial number.

Are you sure it was a 76? I never seen one!
Do you have a link to the auction?
All cars with air bags that I have seen were 74 and 75's.
    My 75 has the option.

I found the information on Park Avenue W 10 and W 18 packages. J4 is the air bags option that deletes the tilt/telescopic wheel on the W18.

I think it was a black 75 coupe. It had crager wire wheels I think. I saw it. I search every day for 1976 and 1975 Buick parts. I'll do that musem thing tomorrow. Right now, this is my project.

I just noticed that the wholesale car order from the sloan museum didn't show which axle ratio my car had :error:

It is the GM Canada document that did it!

The advance manual is a supplement fot the 1974 chassis manual that was printed before the complete 1975 serivce manual was issued. There is no additionnal information in this one. There are supplements that contains additionnal information like the Windshield Wipers manual as they are not covered by the 75 chassis manual.

The differences between the 75-76 Limited and Limited Park Avenue are the different seats, different vinyl top, thicker carpeting on the Park Avenue, headliner, Park Avenue inscription the sail panel windows and on the instrument panel instead of the Limited script. Most Park Avenues have 40/40 seats with a long storage console but some have the 40/60 seats like the Limited.

To post pics, you have to use the manage attachments button in the additional options and post a picture that doesn't exceed the maximum size allowed. If you have Photoshop, you can reduce them with the "save for the web" feature.

oh i see. i remeber the car had 60 40 seats. it had a trailer hitch, auto climate control, 3 speed wiperspower doors windows, trunk lock cruise. i had no idea they were a rarity. wish i would of grabbed the whole car now  . that yard would let you buy whole carsi grabbed the tranny for mine cause the 200r4 i had in hte car started to mess up and i got tired of it.gas milege was great. thanks for putting those sheets up. if anyone needs parts for theirs, ive got a bunch wire harnesses speedos ect. the 2 nd biggest problem i have is finding the roof rail weather stripping. i need the part that the wtop of the window seals to the roof. jc whitney has the center parts, but not the neds and my ends are f.u.b.a.r'ed.

Park Avenue seats on the 1975, 1976, 1977, and 1978 are extremely cushy, expecially after they get broken in. My dad's 78 park avenue had seats that were more comfortable as far as cushyness than my 78 town car. Some people like a firmer seat though. I've never been in a 1979 but they are the same as 77-78.

    It is a 75. VIN: 4x37t5h429886
I knew I had these pics somewhere. It even took a phonecall to Kabul to get them
I don't know for what price the car was sold. It is the Atlantic Ocean which make a car like this too expensive in the end for me :ball: .
