    Hello,

I found a 1976 Buick 455 / long tail TH 400 for sale on Craigslist. The engine and trans are still in the 1976 Buick Estate Wagon it lived in. I have a 1970 skylark and wonder if there will be any issues with this engine and trans combination. I will be rebuilding both, but I want to make sure there are no fitment issues out there that I haven't discovered, aside from engine mounts ect. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If your rebuilding both, then no problem, just switch the trans to the short output shaft, and get the short tail housing. All that stuff is available use, relatively cheap.

I also have a set of Hooker super comp headers for a 350. I'm trying to determine if they will bolt to a 455? I realize that a 455 header may be slightly longer, but for cost, I would use these since I already have them. Anybody know if these will bolt up?

No header is completely different.. flange is not the same, port spacing/bolt holes are not close. You will have to get 455 headers.

    Wouldn't that transmission be a th375?

Nope, that application, behind a 455, should be a 400. For ID, look at the letters on the tag on the passenger side.

TH 375 was only used in the mid size cars of that era.

X2. I'd grab every one of those 400 cores that you can. I've gotten short tail shafts and tail shaft housings on ebay cheap. And you better grab that '76 455. Those are the best one's to get and they don't grow on trees anymore. The heads aren't great but the block is a great cornerstone for a high horse power.
