I have a 1976 455/400TH engine/trans complete assembly for sale. This combo was pulled from a running driving car about 15 years ago and has been sitting in my garage ever since. It doesn't show any signs of having been apart. This is a complete assembly, breather, accessories, exhaust manifolds etc. I'm looking to get $350. Located in Elizabethtown, KY not far from I-65
Interested just have to figure out the cheapest way to get it here in Indy. I'm already trying to find ways to get it here. My 83 crewcab burns to much fuel to get it with that. I need to hook a small trailer to my 91 LeSabre.
Have you ever checked the engine code stamped on the passenger side of the front of the block beside the timing cover?
Yes, I have decoded it in the past. I can take pictures this weekend for you before you drive all the way down here.
After looking at the engine in person it appears to be a '75 model (your mind goes when you get old). I also took a pic of the head casting numbers (1246322) and some numbers on the block deck (which I couldn't make out) but for some reason this site won't let me upload them. I can email them to you if you'd like. Also, the distributor and alternator are missing. Far as I can tell it has never been apart, appears to have original GM gaskets and bolts etc...
Carb number is 7045240 (75) Head casting 1246322 (75-76) Trans appears to be 75 if I read that tag right.
The vin on this engine on front of block starts out 45X so is that 4=Buick 5=1975 X=? I've seen H which I think is Flint Mi but don't know about X. Could someone let me know what X is in the code? Thanks!
